OUR FARMERS
OUR MISSION
OUR BUSINESS

Jack Motter and Jeff Kramer are lifelong friends who grew up in fourth-generation farming families in Brawley, a small agricultural community in the Imperial Valley of Southeastern California. Both moved to Santa Barbara to attend college and have called the Central Coast home since 2002.

Jack founded Ellwood Canyon Farms in 2009, and Jeff joined the business in 2010. For more than a decade they operated the farm as an organic grower-shipper in the fertile Goleta Valley, gaining extensive hands-on experience managing crops, equipment, labor, and the many operational challenges of farming on the Central Coast.

Today, Jack and Jeff apply that experience to managing and consulting on agricultural operations throughout Santa Barbara County. Their background as working farmers gives them a practical understanding of the planning, logistics, and day-to-day decision making required to operate successful agricultural properties.

Our mission is to support successful and sustainable farming throughout Santa Barbara County by helping agricultural operations plan, manage, and execute well-run farm programs. Drawing on decades of hands-on farming experience, we work with landowners and agricultural partners to develop thoughtful crop plans, realistic budgets, and practical operational strategies.

We believe that healthy farms start with responsible land stewardship and sound management. By combining practical farming knowledge with strong relationships throughout the local agricultural community, we strive to help farms operate efficiently, maintain productive soils, and contribute to a strong and resilient agricultural landscape.

After more than a decade operating as an organic grower-shipper, Ellwood Canyon Farms has evolved into a custom farming and agricultural consulting business serving farms and landowners throughout Santa Barbara County.

Partners Jack Motter and Jeffrey Kramer bring a lifetime of agricultural experience to a wide range of crops and farming ventures across the Central Coast. Today, Ellwood Canyon Farms focuses on the planning and business side of farming—developing practical farm budgets, crop plans, and harvest schedules designed to support profitable and well-managed agricultural operations.

When needed, we also help execute those plans in the field. Our team operates a fleet of row-crop tractors and implements, and through our Farm Labor Contractor (FLC) license we can provide experienced farm crews including tractor operators, irrigators, and field workers. We also work closely with a network of trusted third-party operators and agricultural service providers, allowing us to coordinate specialized work and ensure that any aspect of a farming operation can be completed efficiently.

We are proud to be part of Santa Barbara County agriculture and are always looking for the next farm, landowner, or agricultural project to partner with.
